This project was born in October 2008. The challenge was to supply the Dispensary Tomboronkoto with a vehicle for patient transport. The Rural Community did not have any means of transport and in case of any Emergency they had no resources to transport the injured to the hospital in Kédougou, which is the closest Hospital 35 km away.
On April 28, 2009 we completed this project with the delivery of a Renault Express van, that was purchased in Dakar, it was fitted, mechanically verified, and finally properly labeled.
The trip took place from Dakar to Tomboronkoto. It was very useful to travel over 450 kilometers to verify the proper operation of the Van.
The arrival at Tomboronkoto was a real party with people gathered in the main square. The same afternoon of our arrival a official ceremony was held with the handover of the vehicle and speeches of the authorities of the Region.
So were happening the speeches one after the other of the responsibles for the clinic, Mr. Tamba Keita and Mr. Prosper Diouf, the President of the Rural Council, Mr. Karma Keita, the Rural Board Member, Mr. Mamadou N'Diong and the head of the village Mr. Bambo Keita. In the speeches they repeated the notion that the arrival of this first four-wheel vehicle to the Community will solve many critical situations, and even lives will be saved having the opportunity to transport medical emergencies when they occur.
In the event were also present additional 29 heads of villages that depend on the clinic Tomboronkoto and larger populations of the area.
Together with the transport van, we delivered a quantity of 200 euros in cash, to cover the costs of insurance and vehicle maintenance in the coming months, and a great infrastructure of medicines for the pharmacy of the clinic.
